FLORENCE, SC – Freshmen forward Nick Huenig scored Francis Marion University's lone goal in the 28th minute helping the Patriots to a 1-1 draw against Rollins College at Hartzler Field, Monday (Sept. 6) afternoon in men's soccer action.
 
The Patriots (0-1-1) visit sixth-ranked Wingate University this Thursday (Sept. 9) at 7 p.m.
 
Francis Marion junior goalkeeper Riccardo Rossi needed to make only one save during his 110 minutes of play as the Patriots outshot the Tars 11-8.  FMU also led in corner kicks 8-7.
 
Rollins (1-0-1) forward Georgios Koliniatis tallied the first score in the 26th minute of the match with a header off a free kick by William Centeno.
 
Two minutes later, Huenig brought the Patriots leveled the score with a header off a service by Sam Pollard at 27:29.  Huenig now has two goals to lead the Patriots this season. Proceeding the goal by Huenig, another chance by the Patriots arose when defender John Castro served in a ball that would ultimately be headed off the right post by a Rollins defender, also in the 28th minute.
 
The Patriots dealt with a few injuries throughout the match, leading to some younger players getting more minutes on the pitch. Sophomores Matias Morales, Pablo Gil, Isak Strand, and freshmen Jaume Bonet were among those who saw more minutes in this match.
 
"I was excited to see these younger players get more experience on the pitch and these players have to be ready when their name gets called," said FMU head coach Luis Rincon. "Those guys did what they were supposed to do when their number was called, and I am proud of those players for stepping up."
 
Rollins goalkeeper Maximillian Obermeier ended the match with seven saves, including one in each of the overtime periods.
