AUGUSTA, GA – Francis Marion University took Augusta University to the max before falling 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13, Tuesday evening (April 13) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.
 
Francis Marion (3-9, 3-9) will play at Young Harris College on Friday at 6 p.m.
 
Patriot junior Alyssa Hansen posted a double-double with season-highs of 17 kills and 17 digs, while also registering six blocks.  Junior 6-2 middleblocker Lily Walton tallied a career-high 16 kills and six blocks, while both Kayla Arthur and Brittany Sehnke had six kills.
 
Freshman setter Kaylee Gillespie dished out 37 assists, dug up 17 balls, and served two aces.  Junior libero Alexis Watts posted a career-high 25 digs.
 
Kylie Martin led Augusta (11-2, 11-2) with 16 kills, while Samantha Zittrauer handed out 37 assists and Holland Martin recorded 23 digs and three service aces.
 
Back-to-back kills by Walton closed out the first set FMU win.  After Augusta took sets two and three, Francis Marion took a commanding 24-16 advantage in set four.  The Jaguars closed to within 24-23, but the Patriots forced an attacking error to claim the win and force a fifth set.
 
FMU scored the opening four points only to have Augusta run off seven straight.  The score was then deadlocked at 13-13 when the Jaguars captured the final two points.
