Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Patriots fall to #7 Cougars

FLORENCE, SC – Seventh-ranked Columbus State University scored six first-half goals and went on to claim an 8-0 Peach Belt Conference win over Francis Marion University, Sunday (March 21) in women's soccer play.

Francis Marion (2-6-0, 2-6-0) will conclude its season with a pair of road matches: at Georgia Southwestern State University on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at USC Aiken on March 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Prior to the Senior Day match, FMU recognized the four seniors on this year's roster: midfielder Sarah Moll and defenders Brooke Kennedy, Dayle McEwen, and Megan Misuraca.  All are four-year letterwinners who have appeared in more than 50 matches as a Patriot.

FMU sophomore goalkeeper Makayla Willets recorded a season-high nine saves, including a pair of strong stops during the opening 11 minutes that kept the match scoreless.

Eight different Cougars accounted for the CSU scores.  Kelly Hendricks tallied the first score at 12:31 as she benefited from two quick passes in the midfield by Anna Grady and Kimmy May.  Columbus State added goals in the 24th, 29th, 33rd, 38th, and 43rd minutes to lead 6-0 at halftime.

Patriot scoring opportunities included a free kick in the first half that found McEwen near the 6-yard box, but she could not direct it toward the goal with her head.  In the second half, junior Valentina Restrepo had a long shot from the left side that went wide of the target.

Columbus State improved to 5-1-1, both overall and in conference play.
