ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Senior Kayla Arthur and freshman Lexi Albright each registered seven kills, but Francis Marion University lost a three-set decision (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) to Flagler College, Friday evening (March 19) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball play.
 
Francis Marion (1-4, 1-4) will conclude its three-match road trip with a 5 p.m. match at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga., on Saturday.  FMU will return home to host Young Harris College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
 
Albright also led the Patriots with nine digs, while freshman setter Kaylee Gillespie handed out 20 assists for FMU.  Arthur recorded a team-high three blocks.
 
Victoria Bowrosen led first-place Flagler (8-2, 6-0) with 12 kills, while Kennedy Muff dished out 37 assists.
 
Flagler used an 11-1 spurt in the opening set to expand a 10-8 advantage and capture the 25-16 win.  The tightly contested second set featured 12 ties.  The Patriots owned a 21-17 lead after a Flagler serving error, but the Saints rebounded to knot the score at 22-22.  A Lily Walton kill off a Gillespie set gave FMU a 24-23 lead and a set point.  However, back-to-back kills by Bowrosen and a bad set by the Patriots allowed Flagler to escape with the victory.
 
In the final set, the Saints tallied the first three points and never trailed en route to the clinching win.
