DUE WEST, SC – Erskine College's Brittiney Gardner scored just before the horn at the end of the first overtime period to give the Flying Fleet a 1-0 win over Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 30) in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action.

The match was the final 2021 contest for the Patriots.

Francis Marion led in corner kicks 5-3 despite being outshot 12-6. Graduate student
Dayle McEwen led FMU with three shots, while senior
Ellie Wray and sophomores
Ambrea Hills and
Jada Pearson had one attempt each.

Hills' attempt was on frame and forced a save by Erskine goalkeeper Abby McElveen in the 44th minute.

A save by a Patriot defender in the 51st minute kept the match scoreless. McElveen stopped shots by McEwen in the 81st minute and Wray with 12 seconds remaining to force the extra session.

Makayla Willets registered four saves to push her season total to 118 – the third highest in team history. McElveen also finished with four stops in goal.

Both keepers posted saves in the overtime period prior to the golden goal. McEwen had the FMU shot on target at the 93:24 mark.
