Francis Marion (0-3, 0-2) will play its next two games on the road at Lander University on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. and at the University of North Georgia on Jan. 16 at 3:30 p.m. The next home contest for the Patriots will be against USC Aiken on Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m.

FMU led by as many as five in the opening period before settling for an 18-15 advantage as the horn sounded. In the second quarter, a three-pointer from the right corner by senior guard
Taylor Simmons pushed the Patriot lead to 26-20. However, GSW finished the half with an 8-2 spurt to knot the score at 28-28.

A lay-in by Gilmore gave Francis Marion a 35-34 lead with 6:57 left in the third quarter, but the deciding 16-2 run resulted in a 50-37 Hurricane advantage. Two free throws by Oliver trimmed the margin to 11 (50-39) as the period ended.

A three-pointer by Oliver to open the fourth quarter cut the deficit to single digits (50-42), but five consecutive points by GSW expanded the lead back to double figures where it would remain for the rest of the contest.

Francis Marion shot 32.1 percent from the floor, including 10-of-24 from behind the three-point arc, and was 12-of-16 at the free throw line. GSW connected on 45.2 percent of its shots, including 8-of-20 from long range, and was 9-of-13 at the charity stripe. Â
