Box Score FLORENCE, SC – Junior right-hander Cade Heil pitched 7.2 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits to lead the University of North Georgia to a 6-0 win over Francis Marion University, Friday evening (Feb. 21) in Peach Belt Conference baseball action.
FMU drops to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while UNG improves to 8-2 and 5-2. The two squads will play game two of the weekend series on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the finale slated for Sunday at 1 p.m., all on Cormell Field at Sparrow Stadium.
Sophomore outfielders Will Hardee and Brett Kemp accounted for Francis Marion's two hits.
Nighthawk centerfielder Crews Taylor broke up a scoreless pitchers' duel with a solo home run to right field in the top of the sixth. North Georgia added an unearned run in the seventh on a two-out error and then plated four insurance tallies in the ninth.
Trailing only 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Francis Marion loaded the bases with two outs, but were unable to push across a run.
FMU senior southpaw Josh Bobrowski (1-3) pitched seven strong frames, allowing only two hits and one earned run, while striking out 10 and walking only one.
Entering the ninth inning, each team had only two hits.
Heil (3-0) fanned eight and walked two in his stint, while relievers Cody Collett and Beau Jones retired the final four FMU batters.
