Box Score DAHLONEGA, GA – Sophomore forward Alvaro Zamora scored 2:19 into the second half and 20th-ranked Francis Marion University registered its sixth shutout of the year as the Patriots downed the University of North Georgia 1-0, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) in Peach Belt Conference men's soccer action.
Francis Marion improves to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the PBC, while the Nighthawks drop to 4-6-1 and 1-1-0. The Patriots return home to hold Senior Night on Monday (Oct. 21) when the Patriots entertain Shaw University at 6 p.m. on Hartzler Field.
Francis Marion outshot North Georgia 14-5 and held a 12-8 advantage in corner kicks. The Patriot defense limited UNG to only one shot on goal, and that occurred in the 20th minute.
Zamora tallied an unassisted score at the 47:19 mark. It was his team-leading fourth goal of the season and his third match-winner.
Patriot junior goalkeeper Maximiliano Rocco finished with one save, while UNG's Conner Domaleski made three stops.
Zamora led FMU with three shots, while five other Patriots recorded two shots apiece.
