GREENWOOD, SC – Pinch-hitter Zack Moore drilled a run-scoring single to left field with no outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Lander University to a 4-3 win over Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon (March 24) in Peach Belt Conference baseball action.

Francis Marion (12-18, 5-12) and Lander (9-18 and 3-11) will play the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.  Following this weekend series, FMU will return home to host Newberry College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Senior catcher William Robbins, junior left fielder Gage Taylor, and junior second baseman Steven Cox led the Patriots with two hits apiece.  Both Taylor and junior shortstop CJ Mackinson extended their hitting streak to 13 and 12 games respectively.

Sophomore right-handed reliever Christian Umphlett (3-3) took the loss.  FMU junior righty starter Evan Flynn pitched 6.2 innings and allowed only one earned run on eight hits, while fanning seven.

Lander reliever Alex Moore (1-2) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of work.

Moore's game-winning hit plated center fielder Kyle Jenkins who had doubled to lead off the frame.

Both teams scored a single run in the first frame as Griffith and Bearcat catcher Mike Fitschen traded two-out run-scoring singles.

A two-out Patriot error allowed Lander to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to go on top 3-1.  However, FMU responded immediately in the top of the fifth.  Taylor and Cox both singled and then moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt, before Robbins bounced a two-run, game-tying single through the right side.

Sophomore left fielder Patrick Jackson and Taylor both singled to lead off the seventh inning, but FMU could not push across a run.
