CHARLOTTE, NC – Francis Marion University came up on the short end of two matches on Friday (Sept. 1) during opening day action at the Queens University of Charlotte Fall Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

The Patriots fell to Wingate University 25-13, 25-19, 25-12 and then dropped a 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 decision to Shorter University.

On Saturday, the Patriots will face Winston-Salem State University at noon and the host Royals at 6 p.m.  FMU will then return home to host the FMU Invitational Tournament Sept. 8-9 in the Smith University Center.

In the loss to Wingate, junior Georgia Garrison led the Patriots with eight kills and seven digs.  Junior setter Carrie McGinnis handed out 23 assists and dug up six balls, while freshman Kayla Arthur recorded seven kills.

On Friday afternoon against Shorter, sophomore middleblocker Lenee' Blot posted 10 kills on 21 swings for a .333 attack percentage.  Her kill total was one shy of her career high.  Garrison added nine kills and a team-high 14 digs.

McGinnis dished out 24 assists against the Hawks, while senior Shelbi Meek and sophomore Natalie Vaughn dug up 13 and 12 balls respectively.
