Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – Georgia College sophomore Emily Crowell led the Bobcats past Francis Marion University 3-1 (25-14, 25-18, 19-25, 26-24) with 14 kills and one block, Saturday evening (Oct. 28) in Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball action.
The Patriots drop to 7-15 overall and 2-7 in PBC competition, while GC improves to 17-5 and 6-3.
Francis Marion will travel to USC Aiken on Tuesday with the first-serve set for 7 p.m. The next home contest for FMU will be on Nov. 7 against Claflin University starting at 7 p.m. in the Smith University Center.
Senior Shelbi Meek compiled a career-high equaling 14 kills, five digs, and one block for the Patriots, while junior Georgia Garrison tallied 10 kills and 17 digs. Senior Erika Hartings had five kills and one block.
FMU freshman setter Tori Carpenter distributed 20 assists and dug up 8 balls, while sophomore libero Natalie Vaughn recorded 21 digs. Junior Carrie McGinnis added 15 assists.
Vaughn served four aces, while Garrison and Carpenter registered three each.
Along with Crowell's 14 kills, freshman Libby Bochniak and junior Taylor Svehla had 10 each. Junior setter Kayla Brockway handed out 38 assists and matched Vaughn's 21 digs.
Georgia College used a 10-1 spurt to end the second set and took a commanding 2-0 lead heading to the intermission. FMU came back in the third set by jumping out to a 12-6 lead and went on to win 25-19.
Francis Marion started the fourth set on an 8-0 run behind the serving of Garrison, and later led 15-10, but the Bobcats rallied to take the lead 24-22. The Patriots would then tie the set at 24, but GC would earn the next two points, finishing the set 26-24 and the match 3-1.
