FLORENCE, SC – Augusta University hit .311 as a team and swept a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match from Francis Marion University on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21).  The Jaguars won by the scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-19.

Francis Marion (7-14, 2-6) will play at Georgia College on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.  The next home match for the Patriots will be Nov. 7 against Claflin University at 7 p.m.

Junior Georgia Garrison led FMU with 10 kills, while senior Shelbi Meek, freshman Kayla Arthur, and freshman Cortney Bowen all registered six kills apiece.  Bowen also posted a match-high six blocks.

Sophomore libero Natalie Vaughn paced the FMU defense with 10 digs, while setters Tori Carpenter and Carrie McGinnis handed out 17 and 16 assists respectively.

Blair Bolton led Augusta (14-10, 5-3) with 10 kills.  Setters Payton Murchie and McKenzey Beck tallied 22 and 18 assists respectively, while libero Holland Martin dug up 17 balls.

Augusta never trailed in the opening set.  The second set featured 12 ties and three lead changes.  The Jaguars took control with as 7-2 spurt that snapped a 12-12 deadlock.  FMU took an early lead in set three, but Augusta gradually pulled away to the clinching 25-19 victory.

Saturday's contest was the Patriots' annual PINK Match to raise funds for and awareness of breast cancer.
