Box Score SAVANNAH, GA – Francis Marion University ended its regular season with a 3-0 loss (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) to Armstrong State University, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) in Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball action.
The Patriots end the regular season with a 15-12 overall record and a 9-9 conference mark. FMU is currently in a fourth-place tie with Lander University, but the Patriots own the tiebreaker with the Bearcats.
The top eight teams advance to the PBC Tournament, Nov. 18-20, at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga. Tournament pairings will be announced Monday night.
Sophomore Georgia Garrison paced the Patriots with 10 kills and nine digs, while senior middleblocker Caroline Boone added eight kills.
The FMU freshmen specialty duo of setter Kaitlyn Ziegelmaier and libero Natalie Vaughn registered 23 assists and 11 digs respectively.
Raquel Kulak led third-place Armstrong State (22-6, 12-5) with nine kills, while setter Carley Eiken recorded 35 assists and 13 digs.
In the opening set, the Patriots broke a 3-3 tie with a 7-1 run to lead 10-4. Armstrong State rallied to knot the score at 12-12 and continued the 21-7 spurt onto a 25-17 win. In the second set, Francis Marion trailed 19-13, but rallied to within 23-20 before the Pirates won 25-21. In the third set, Armstrong State raced to an 8-0 lead and was never threatened.
