Box Score CLINTON, SC - Francis Marion University women's soccer head coach Lindsey Morgan picked up her first career coaching victory in the Patriots' 2-1 overtime win over Presbyterian College on Sunday night (Aug. 23).
The Patriots (1-1-0) travel to Rock Hill, S.C. on Thursday to face off with Winthrop at 7 p.m. The next home match for FMU will be Aug. 30 against UNC Asheville at Hartzler Field at 2 p.m.
Sophomore Helena Moore scored the game-winner in the second overtime period to lift Francis Marion to its first win of the season. Her goal came in the 102nd minute on a shot from outside of the box.
Junior Breanna Henderson scored her first career goal in the 19th minute with an assist on a corner kick by senior Shauna Griffin to put Francis Marion up 1-0. That lead held up until the 71st minute.
FMU was held to four shots, but made the most of the attempts by landing three on goal. Moore posted two shots, Henderson recorded one, and senior Arianna Pierner recorded a shot in the first half.
Francis Marion senior goalkeeper Taylor O'Berry had seven saves between the pipes and extends her school record of career saves to 308.
The Blue Hose posted 22 shots (eight on goal) in the match. Ashlynn Powell scored the lone goal for Presbyterian and led the team with four shots.
