Box Score AUGUSTA, GA – Francis Marion University tied the match at one set apiece with a marathon win in set two, but Augusta University answered with two wins to take Saturday's (Nov. 7) Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball match by scores of 25-16, 26-28, 25-20, and 25-11.
Francis Marion (14-12, 7-8) travels up Interstate 95 on Wednesday to battle local PBC rival UNC Pembroke with a 7 p.m. first serve. The next home match for FMU will be its annual Senior Night match on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. against the University of Montevallo.
Freshman Georgia Garrison led the Patriots with 11 kills, while junior middleblocker Caroline Boone tallied 10 kills. Senior Alexzandra Reed added nine kills, nine digs, and three service aces.
The setting tandem of junior Samantha Hinrichs (24) and freshman Carrie McGinnis (11) combined for 35 assists, while sophomore libero Shelbi Meek registered 19 digs.
Katie Beresford and Savanna Gonzales both pounded out 16 kills to lead Augusta (16-13, 7-10). Setters Alyssa Latham (29) and Sadie Thurston (24) combined for 53 assists, while libero Cat DeSilvester dug up 23 balls.
A pair of kills by Boone snapped a 26-26 deadlock in the second set to propel FMU to a 28-26 win. After dropping the third set, FMU trailed only 13-10 in the fourth set, but the Jaguars closed the match with a 12-1 run.
