MONTEVALLO, AL – Despite an all-around effort from junior middleblocker Caroline Boone of 21 kills, six blocks, three service aces, and a .531 hitting percentage, Francis Marion University lost a tight five-set road decision to the University of Montevallo 24-26, 25-18, 24-26, 26-24, 15-10, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 17) in Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball action.

Francis Marion (12-9, 5-5) will return to Florence to play host to Flagler College on Friday at 7 p.m. in the program's annual Dig Pink Match to raise funds for and awareness of breast cancer.

Boone registered her kill total against only four attack errors in 32 total swings.  Senior Alexzandra Reed recorded her second double-double in as many nights with 15 kills and 13 digs, while junior Carlie Smith added 13 kills, 23 digs, and four aces.

The setting tandem of junior Samantha Hinrichs (28) and freshman Carrie McGinnis (24) combined to direct the Patriot offense with 52 assists.  Sophomore libero Shelbi Meek dug up 22 balls and served three aces.

Kristy Bohan's 20 kills led five Falcons with double-figure kills.  Setter Briana Marquez tallied 64 assists and 14 digs, while Carissa Bell recorded a match-high 32 digs.

The marathon match featured 31 ties and 15 lead changes.  A 5-0 run by Montevallo (15-8, 7-3) in the deciding fifth set snapped an 8-8 deadlock and propelled the Falcons to the win.
