Francis Marion ups its overall record to 11-7 and evens its PBC mark at 4-4. FMU will play host to Queens University of Charlotte for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Smith University Center.
Garrison recorded 13 kills on 29 swings with no attack errors for a .448 hitting percentage. The Trinity, N.C., native also dug up 12 balls. Smith only committed two attack errors and posted a .400 hitting percentage.
Senior Alexzandra Reed and junior Caroline Boone each recorded eight kills. Freshman setter Carrie McGinnis tallied 26 assists, while junior Samantha Hinrichs handed out 13 assists. Less than 24 hours after digging up a career-high 37 balls in a four-set win over Tusculum College, sophomore libero Shelbi Meek led FMU on Saturday with 18 digs.
Freshman Ebony Powers led Georgia College (9-8, 4-5) with 10 kills and three blocks. Freshman setter Kayla Brockway dished out 28 assists, while sophomore libero Katie Ray posted a match-high 22 digs.
A 10-0 run behind the serving of McGinnis helped Francis Marion take control of set one. Trailing 25-24 in set two, the Patriots took advantage of a Bobcat hitting error to knot the score and then kills by Boone and Garrison gave FMU the 27-25 win. Francis Marion took the lead for good in the third set at 5-4 on a serving ace by Meek. FMU led by only two at 22-20, but kills by Reed and Smith and a Bobcat attack error helped close out the match.
Francis Marion's .307 team hitting percentage was the highest for the Patriots in their eight conference matches this season.
