Box Score Misenheimer, N.C. (April 16, 2014) – The Francis Marion University baseball team smashed four home runs as a part of 24 hits in a 23-4 rout of Pfeiffer University on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup from Misenheimer, N.C.
The Patriots (23-19) will return to Peach Belt Conference play this weekend when they travel to take on GRU Augusta. The three-game series will begin on Friday night (April 18) at 6:30 p.m.
Senior righty Austin Cox (3-0) earned the victory on the hill after tossing five innings with five strikeouts and just three earned runs. Freshman righty Gordon Owens and junior right-hander Justin Turbeville also saw time on the mound.
At the plate, every Patriot starter tallied at least one hit. Senior third baseman Luke Tollison was 4-for-5 at the plate with six runs batted in, and extended his hitting streak to a team-high 15 games. Senior outfielder Marquis Curry had three base hits in seven trips to the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored, while senior shortstop Michael Wilson scored a game-high five runs with two hits and two RBIs.
Sophomore infielder Cole Morris recorded three base hits and an RBI, junior catcher Nicholas McGee had two base knocks, and senior outfielder Isaac Davenport added three hits and three runs scored. The Patriots got home runs from Wilson, Tollison, Curry, and McGee.
FMU broke an early 1-1 tie with a six-run third inning to take complete control of the game. The Patriots also put up five runs in the in each of the fifth, sixth, and ninth innings.
