Box Score FLORENCE, SC – Junior Alexzandra Reed posted 16 kills and sophomore Caroline Boone added 15 to power Francis Marion University to a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) of Georgia College, Friday night (Oct. 31) in Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball action.
Francis Marion, winner of three of its last four matches, improves to 9-16 overall and 5-10 in the Peach Belt. The victory also secures FMU a spot in the conference post-season tournament.
Francis Marion will close out its home schedule on Saturday with a Senior Day match-up with GRU Augusta. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Boone registered a .357 hitting percent while recording her third double-digit kill total in the past four contests. Reed also tallied 10 digs for her 13th double-double of the season.
Senior setter Sloane Shank handed out 38 assists and dug up nine balls, while junior libero Jessica Amador had 16 digs and senior defensive specialist Brianna West 12 digs. Both Shank and Amador served three aces.
Setter Mollie Michel led Georgia College (7-18, 2-14) with 21 assists, seven kills, two service aces, and 11 digs. Libero Ella Anastasiades recorded a game-high 19 digs.
A nip-and-tuck first set was decided by a late 3-0 FMU run that included a kill by Reed, a Bobcat attack error, and a service ace by Amador. Boone also helped out by earning three of the set's final four points with kills.
Georgia College held a 3-2 lead early in the second set, but Francis Marion put together an 8-3 spurt that put the Patriots ahead to stay en route to the 25-20 win. FMU never trailed in winning set three.
