FLORENCE, SC -- Despite another double-double by junior Alexzandra Reed, Francis Marion University (5-12, 3-6) came up short against the University of Montevallo (14-7, 6-3) on Saturday (Oct. 11) as the Falcons came away with a 3-1 victory (25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 25-15).

FMU will be back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. against Barton College as the Patriots will host their annual Dig Pink match to bring awareness to breast cancer. FMU's Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will be present along with a donation booth for the Side Out Foundation as well as several contests and prizes.

UM wasted no time in the match on Saturday earning a close 25-22 win in the first set. The Patriots battled right back though, taking the second set 25-18.

FMU was led in the second set and in the match by Reed, who put away 13 kills to lead all players. Reed also led the Patriots with 10 digs. The double-double is Reed's seventh of the season.

The Falcons were led offensively by three players. Rebekah Phelps and Chandler Cooper each knocked home 11 kills, while Kristy Bohan added 10 more. Briana Marquez dished out 40 assists to lead all players.

Caroline Boone added eight kills and four blocks for the Patriots as FMU delivered four more total blocks than the Falcons. Sophomore Carlie Smith recorded nine kills. That was not enough however, as UM took over late and won the third and fourth sets, both by a score of 25-15.

FMU senior setter Sloane Shank dished out 28 assists.
