#22 FMU creates chances, ends match with UNC Pembroke in scoreless tie

Box Score

PEMBROKE, N.C. -- In the second match of a three-match road swing for No. 22 Francis Marion (5-1-2), the 22nd-ranked Patriots ended a pivotal Wednesday night Peach Belt Conference contest in a 0-0 tie with UNC Pembroke (2-3-3). This marks the 10th scoreless draw in school history and the fourth in the last two seasons.

With the tie, FMU moves to 5-1-2 on the year and 0-1-2 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Patriots will finish out their road trip with a visit to PBC foe North Georgia on Saturday (Oct. 4) at 7:30 p.m. The next home match for FMU will be Wednesday (Oct. 8) at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference outing against Erskine.

FMU goalkeeper Mike Warn earned the shutout against the Braves, getting plenty of assistance from his stellar defensive unit. In his fourth shutout of the season, Warn was only called upon to make two saves on the night. The PBC's leader in goals against average improved his league best totals to 0.59 goals per 90 minutes and has only allowed five goals in eight total matches.

Junior Sven Ricke led the Patriots with four shots, while sophomore Shahin Hemat and freshmen Ryan Kolenda and Max Jenks-Gilbert put up three shots each. Ricke and Jenks-Gilbert also combined to give FMU the team's only two shots on goal. Despite 16 total shots from the Patriots and the 13 total shots from the Braves, neither team managed to find the back of the net.

Both FMU and UNCP put two shots on goal and recorded two saves.
