Augusta, GA (Jan. 2, 2014) – GRU Augusta shot over 50 percent from the field and the Jaguars knocked off Francis Marion 60-47 Thursday night in Peach Belt Conference men's basketball action. Senior forward Robert Carpenter led FMU with 18 points.

The Patriots (3-6, 0-3 PBC) play at home for the first time in 2014 Saturday afternoon when they host Armstrong Atlantic State at 3:30 p.m. inside the Smith University Center. FMU will be hosting FYBL Tip-Off Day with all Florence Youth Basketball League players who wear their jerseys admitted free of charge as well as two guests admitted free.

Graduate student Evrik Gary added 12 points and four rebounds. Juniors Clark Major and Dustin Jones chipped in eight points apiece, with Major finishing with a team high five rebounds and Jones picking up three steals.

GRU Augusta (10-2, 3-0) was paced by Ryan Weems who finished with 16 points and three assists. D'Angelo Boyce added 11 points off the bench.

The Patriots held an early 14-11 advantage midway through the first half after a Carpenter layup. However the Jaguars would respond with an 11-0 run, and eventually stretched their lead to 30-21 at the half.

GRU came out firing in the second half and extended its lead to a game-high 20 points off a Weems three pointer with 11 minutes to play. The Patriots were only able to claw back within 14 points of the lead before falling 60-47 at the final buzzer.

The Patriots held a 10-5 advantage in steals and were able to force 14 Jaguar turnovers. GRU Augusta finished the game shooting 51.4 percent from the field, including a solid 46.2 percent from the three point line. The Jaguars held a 30-21 rebounding advantage and assisted on all 19 field goals made.
