Box Score Wilson, N.C. (Sept. 10, 2013) – Shahin Hemat and Joergen
Tesdal each scored their first career goal, and the Francis
Marion University men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw against
Barton College, Tuesday night in Wilson, N.C.
FMU (1-0-1) will travel to St. Augustine, Fla., Saturday (Sept.
14) to take on nationally ranked Flagler College at 7 p.m., in both
teams opening Peach Belt Conference match. The Saints are ranked
fourth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA) Division II Top 25 poll.
Tesdal put the Patriots on the board first in the sixth minute
of the match. The sophomore midfielder netted his first goal of the
season with a shot from the close left wing past senior goalkeeper
Vasily Yakimkin. FMU's Ben Kwast and Alex Blandin were
credited with assists on the goal.
The Bulldogs would counter with two unanswered goals, and took a
2-1 lead through 49 minutes of play. Barton junior midfielder Dante
De Luca registered the tying goal in the 30th minute, off a cross
from the left wing by Erik Pajunk.
Barton's second goal came off the foot of senior midfielder
Archer Bane. Bane received a pass following a rebound shot, and
poked the ball past FMU's freshman goalkeeper Nick Stover.
However, the Patriots would once again tie the game in the 76th
minute when Hemat tallied his first career goal for the red, white
and blue (see video of score below). The freshman midfielder
collected a failed clearing attempt by the Bulldog defense
following a corner kick, and fired a shot from 25 years out past
Yakimkin. The game would move into overtime 14 minutes after
Hemat's goal.
Each defense didn't face a shot in the first 10-minute overtime
session, but the Patriots would strike with three shots in the
first three minutes of the second overtime. The Patriots best
chance of scoring the winning goal came in the 102nd minute, when
Hemat took a shot from the close left wing, but couldn't find the
back of the net.
The Bulldog offense would take six shots on goal in the final
eight minutes of the match, but Stover held strong, and made four
saves to keep the Patriots undefeated on the young season.
FMU outshot Barton 23-18 and held an 8-3 advantage on corner
kicks. Stover finished the match with seven saves, and improved his
record in goal to 1-0-1.
