Inabinet captures 500th coaching win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University head coach Art Inabinet recorded his 500th career coaching victory as the Patriots downed the College of Saint Rose 11-7 game one of Saturday's (Feb. 9) non-conference baseball doubleheader.  Four Saint Rose pitchers limited FMU to only five hits in the second game as the Golden Knights won 3-1 to earn a split.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Cormell Field at Sparrow Stadium.

Francis Marion is now 3-3, while Saint Rose is 1-1.

In his 10th year as head coach at FMU and his 13th season as a four-year college head coach, Inabinet now owns a 500-283-2 mark.

Patriot senior right-hander Don Sandifer (1-1) earned his 20th career win in the opener as he allowed five runs on seven hits, while striking out nine in five innings.  His career mark is 20-9 in 52 career appearances.

Senior third baseman Stephen Tarkenton led the Patriots in game one as he went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in.  Junior infielder Stephen Johnson was 3-for-5 with a run scored, while senior center fielder Jarrod Reed was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in.

Freshman righty John Rossi earned his first collegiate save as he tossed three effective innings in relief to finish the contest.

The Golden Knights opened a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Francis Marion answered with two runs in the third and seven in the fourth.

In the second game, Saint Rose scored twice in the top of the first on RBI hits by Kyle Charron and Lukas Nethaway.  That would be all the support starter Chris Gould (1-0) would need.  He pitched 5.2 innings to earn the victory, while Charron moved to the mound in the ninth inning to earn a save.

Reed drove in the Patriots' lone run with a sixth-inning bases-loaded walk.

FMU senior righty Gary Ashcraft (1-1) took the loss despite allowing only three runs on six hits in six innings.  He fanned eight and walked no one.
