Patriots soar past Falcons 70-51

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, NC – Senior guard Erin Pinkett and junior forward Alexia Bell each scored 14 points as four Francis Marion University players reached double figures and the Patriots downed Pfeiffer University 70-51, Tuesday evening (Nov. 26) in non-conference women's basketball action.

Francis Marion (4-1) wins its fourth straight contest after dropping the season opener.  The Patriots will open Peach Belt Conference play on Monday when they host Georgia College at 5:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center.

Pinkett scored all 14 of her points in the opening half as she connected on her first four three-point attempts.  Bell added a team-high nine rebounds to her point total, while senior forward Dee Gray tallied 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.  Junior guard Chelsea Dukes scored 11 points, nine of which came in the second stanza.

Lauren White and Carlisha Holivay led Pfeiffer (1-5) with 10 points apiece.

FMU took the lead for good at 11-10 on a basket by Bell.  Several minutes later, the Patriots used an 18-9 spurt to push their margin to 38-26.  FMU held a 38-30 advantage at intermission.

Pfeiffer closed to within 42-38 at the 15-minute mark, but Francis Marion scored seven straight points to extend the lead back to double digits at 49-38.  After a Pfeiffer bucket broke the streak, FMU answered with nine consecutive points – four from Dukes – to go up 58-40.  The Falcons would get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Francis Marion shot just 37.7 percent from the floor, but connected on 8-of-20 three-point attempts. The Patriots scored 26 points off 20 Falcon turnovers and FMU registered 17 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.
