Pembroke, N.C. (Oct. 29, 2013) – The Francis Marion University volleyball team dropped a 3-2 Peach Belt Conference contest to UNC Pembroke, Tuesday night in Pembroke, N.C.

The Patriots (17-5, 9-4 PBC) return to the court Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at a non-conference tri-match in Belmont, N.C. FMU will face North Greenville University at 4 p.m., and Belmont Abbey College at 6 p.m.

Junior Alexzandra Reed paced the Patriots with a team-high 18 kills. Senior Kailey Smith recorded 52 assists, while junior Rebekah Davis picked up a match-high 29 digs. Senior Jessica Imbimbo added nine kills and eight digs.

UNCP (12-17, 3-11) was led by Caroline Pridgen who had a match-high 19 kills, while Shekina-Joy Toloumu recorded 55 asssits. Marissa Baker finished with a double-double with 10 kills and 20 digs.

The Patriots jumped out to a nine point lead, and never looked back as they rolled to a 25-20 first set victory. After the Braves jumped on the board with a 27-25 second set victory, UNCP rode the momentum, and won the third set 25-18, taking a 2-1 match lead.

 With its back against the wall, FMU responded in set four with a 14-1 run midway through the set, and cruised to 25-13 set victory to force a decisive fifth game. Tied 6-6 in the fifth set, the Braves reeled off a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead that forced a FMU timeout. The Patriots would not be able to get back within three points of the lead, and UNCP captured the fifth set 15-10, and won the match 3-2.
