AMERICUS, GA – The Francis Marion University men's and
women's cross country teams placed 10th and 12th respectively at
the 2013 Peach Belt Conference championship meet, held Saturday
morning (Oct. 26) and hosted by Georgia Southwestern State
University.
Freshman Jeremiah Hayes led
the Patriot men with a 71st-place finish. The Latta native
finished the 8,000-meter course in 28:57. Freshman Justin Woodard was
73rd in 29:18, followed by junior Justin Koehn in
75th (29:34), freshman Aaron Robinson in
78th (30:18), freshman Gino Lucarelli in
81st (31:12), senior Michael Bigelow
in 83th (32:00), and freshman Mark
Anthony-Holden in 84th (35:15). Four of the Patriot
freshman – Hayes, Woodard, Robinson, and Lucarelli –
all posted personal-best times for the 8K distance.
Senior Rebeccah Hoekstra paced the FMU women with a 41st-place
showing. She posted a time of 23:42 over the 6,000-meter
course. Senior Whitney Wagner finished 49th in a
personal-best time of 24:03, followed by junior Hayden Clapper in
73rd position (25:31), freshman Ashley Wingate in 80th
(26:11), senior Diana Levy in 90th (personal-best 27:07), senior
London Barnhill in 96th (29:38), freshman Emmeline
Wheeler in 97th (30:08), junior Kasey Bradley in 99th (31:52), and
freshman Nicole Edlmann in 100th (32:34).

The FMU women's team is scheduled to run in the NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional Championship Meet, Nov. 9, in Charlotte,
N.C.
GRU Augusta captured the men's team title by virtue of league
tie-breaking rules after finishing in a dead heat with Columbus
State University at 47 points apiece. Flagler College won the
women's team championship.
