Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, AL (Oct. 12, 2013) – The Francis Marion University volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Montevallo Tri-Match in Montevallo, Ala.
The Patriots' 10-match win streak was snapped as they fell 3-1 to the University of Montevallo in the first match. FMU (13-2, 7-1 PBC) bounced back in its second match and swept Southern Arkansas University 3-0 in a non-conference matchup.
The Patriots return to the court Friday, Oct. 18 when they travel to St. Augustine, Fla., to take on Flagler College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
Falcons snap Patriots' win streak
Francis Marion saw its 10-match win streak fall to the hands of Montevallo by a score of 3-1 (25-11, 25-17, 18-25, 25-23) Saturday afternoon.
Alexzandra Reed and Emily Sears paced the Patriot offense with 13 kills each, while Jessica Imbimbo added 11. Senior setter Kailey Smith tallied a match-high 46 assists and a team-high 15 digs. Paige Perreault added 14 digs while Rebekah Davis finished with 13.
Montevallo (13-5, 6-3) was paced by Manyi Ati who finished with a match-high 17 kills. Hannah Christie added 35 assists while Kaleigh Harvey picked up 23 digs.
The Falcons kicked off the first set with a 9-3 run, and didn't look back as they cruised to a 25-11 victory. UM stayed hot and would continue to roll in the second set, and took a 16-10 lead midway through the set. However, FMU would show some fight and used a 5-1 run to move within two points of the UM lead at 17-15. The Falcons would regroup and finished the set on an 8-2 run, and took a 2-0 overall lead with a 25-17 second set victory.
With their backs against the wall, the Patriots would respond in the third set and kept the match alive with a 25-18 set victory. After avoiding the sweep, FMU would ride the momentum to take a 17-12 lead midway through set four.
However the Falcons would then hop on the shoulders of Ati, as she tallied four straight kills to bring UM within a point of the Patriots 17-16 lead. With the set tied at 23-23, the Falcons would throw the final punch, with Christie recording the final two points to give Montevallo a 25-23 fourth set victory, and a 3-1 match victory.

Patriots sweep Southern Arkansas
The Patriots returned to their winning ways after seeing its 10 match win streak snapped earlier in the day by earning a 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-15) sweep of Southern Arkansas Saturday afternoon.
Senior Jessica Imbimbo led FMU by hitting .632 with 12 kills and no errors in 19 attacks. Kailey Smith compiled a team-high 21 assists with five digs, while Rebekah Davis led the Patriots in digs with 24. Megan Mooney added seven kills with a match-high three blocks.
Southern Arkansas (12-7) was led by Amanda Monge who had eight kills, and Gabby Clark who had a match-high 23 assists.
The Patriots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the match when they won the first set 25-19. After quickly winning the second set 25-14, and taking a 2-0 overall lead, FMU closed out SAU with a 25-15 victory in the third set.
