FLORENCE, SC - It took 14th-ranked Francis Marion University Patriots into the eighth inning to get more than one hit in a frame as the Patriots struggled to piece anything together offensively in an 11-2 Peach Belt Conference loss to Flagler College, Friday night (April 6) at Cormell Field in Florence, S.C.

The Patriots fall to 24-13 overall and 12-9 in the PBC, while the Saints move to 22-14 and 10-9.  The two squads will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with the first pitch at 1 p.m.

Francis Marion was held to just six hits on the evening, while Flagler registered 15 knocks, including four in a third inning in which the Saints plated four runs to go up 4-0.

Senior outfielder Buddy Sosnoskie and sophomore Michael Wilson accounted for four the Patriots' six hits, with each going 2-for-4.

In the top of the fourth, the Saints tacked on three more runs to lead 7-0, highlighted by an RBI double by a Brett Moreland and a run-scoring single by John Sgromolo.

Flagler second baseman Will Percy finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Moreland and Charlie Stewart both registered three hits.

The Saints chased FMU sophomore righty Jeffrey Stoner (5-3) in that top of the fourth after Stoner surrendered nine hits and a career-high seven earned runs. Senior Dyson Coker then threw three innings as did freshman Justin Turbeville, who saw his first action as a collegian.

Francis Marion got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior shortstop Brock McCallister led off the inning by being hit by a pitch.  He eventually scored when junior Jarrod Reed coaxed a bases-loaded walk, making the score 8-1 at the time.

The Saints then went on to score a single tally in the top of the sixth, and two more in the eighth to take an 11-1 advantage.

Senior outfielder Tyler Boyd singled in the bottom of the eighth to extend his hitting streak to eight games.  He would later score FMU's second run on a two-out error by the Saints.

Flagler right-hander Danny Brown (3-1) picked up the win, as he allowed only two hits and one run in seven innings.

FMU junior right-hander Spencer Jordan (5-3, 2.82 ERA) and senior southpaw Matt Broderick (4-1, 2.27) are the Patriots' two probable starters for Saturday.
