FLORENCE, SC – Junior setter Kailey Smith posted an unusual double-double of 30 assists and a career-high 22 digs, but it was not enough to propel Francis Marion University past Lander University on Friday evening (Nov. 2) as the Patriots lost in four sets (25-16, 25-22, 18-25, 25-13) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.

Francis Marion drops to 16-10 overall and 4-7 in the PBC, while Lander completes the season-sweep of the Patriots and evens its marks at 13-13 and 5-5.

FMU will close out its 2012 home schedule on Saturday when the Patriots entertain USC Aiken at 2 p.m.

Prior to the Senior Night match, Francis Marion honored outside hitter Liz Drewry, who has not missed a match in her four seasons (118).  Drewry tallied 11 digs, seven kills, four blocks, and a service ace.

Junior middle blocker Megan Mooney paced Francis Marion with 12 kills on 30 swings with a .300 hitting percentage.  In addition to Smith's big output, sophomore libero Rebekah Davis dug up 25 balls, her third 20+ dig effort of the season and only two shy of her career high.

Freshman middle hitter Tarryn Angermeier led Lander with 13 kills, while Hannah Dederick and Kiki Hennessey added 11 and 10 kills respectively.  Sophomore setter Jessica Register dished out 39 assists and had 14 digs, while senior libero Madison Kubal recorded a match-high 31 digs, her third 30+ effort of the year.

Lander scored the first three points of the opening set and never trailed en route to the nine-point victory.  The second set featured 13 ties, but a pair of attack errors by FMU and a kill from Hennessey allowed the Bearcats to break a 20-20 deadlock.  A 6-0 spurt by the Patriots, behind the serving of Jessica Imbimbo, help Francis Marion erase a 14-12 deficit in set three and go on to claim a 25-18 victory.  In the final set, FMU registered the first point, but Lander answered with a 6-0 run of its own and the margin eventually grew to an insurmountable 21-9 margin.
