Box Score PEMBROKE, NC - Francis Marion University overcame a slow start and went on to sweep UNC Pembroke in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-13), Wednesday evening (Oct. 31) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.
Francis Marion moves to 16-9 overall and 4-6 in the PBC, while UNCP (5-19) remains winless in conference play at 0-10. FMU will play its final two home matches this weekend beginning with its Senior Night match on Friday at 7 p.m. against Lander University.
Senior Liz Drewry led Francis Marion with 13 kills, a .367 hitting percentage, three service aces, and eight digs, while junior Jessica Imbimbo added 10 kills. Junior setter Kailey Smith handed out 33 assists and recorded nine digs, while sophomore libero Rebekah Davis registered a team-high 13 digs.
The Patriots held UNCP to a .000 hitting percentage: 24 kills and 24 attack errors in 100 attacks.
FMU trailed 12-8 in the opening set, but finished with a 17-5 run to go on top 1-0. Smith served six balls during the rally. The Patriots never trailed in set two, at one time leading 23-9. The Braves scored the opening two points of the third set, but Francis Marion answered with a 12-3 spurt en route to the 25-13 victory.
