Box Score SAINT AUGUSTINE, FL - Francis Marion University put up a tough fight for the opening two sets but eventually succumbed to conference leader Flagler College 25-23, 25-22, 25-15, Friday night (Oct. 26) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.
The loss snaps Francis Marion's six-match winning streak and drops the Patriots to 15-8 overrall and 3-5 in the PBC. The Saints (16-7) remain unbeaten in conference play at 8-0.
FMU plays at Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Senior Liz Drewry led the Patriots with 11 kills and a .360 hitting percentage. Junior Jessica Imbimbo added 10 kills, while sophomore libero Rebekah Davis recorded a team-high seven digs. The setting tandem of Kailey Smith (15) and Sloane Shank (10) combined for 25 assists.
In the opening set, a kill by Imbimbo knotted the score at 23-23 before Flagler tallied the final two points on a kill and a Patriot ball-handling error. In the second set, Flagler held a slim 15-14 margin, but used a 5-1 spurt to open a 20-15 lead. FMU clawed back to within 24-22 before the Saints registered the deciding point. Flagler scored the opening three points, and seven of the first eight, in the final set and never trailed.
