Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, GA – Francis Marion University ran its winning streak to five matches with a pair of non-conference victories on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 20) at the Jaguar Invitational Tournament, hosted by Augusta State University.
Behind 10 kills and nine digs from junior Jessica Imbimbo, the Patriots beat Erskine College in four sets (25-19, 13-25, 25-17, 25-15) and then used 20 kills and 17 digs by senior Liz Drewry to rally past Queens University of Charlotte in five sets (25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 25-19, 17-15).
Francis Marion improves to 14-7 and surpasses its win total for the 2011 season. The Patriots will play host to Barton College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the program's annual Dig Pink Match to help raise funds for and awareness of breast cancer.
In the win over the Flying Fleet (12-9), Drewry added nine kills and nine digs. Setters Sloane Shank (16) and Kailey Smith (15) combined to hand out 31 assists, while sophomore libero Rebekah Davis tallied a match-high 22 digs.
Davis would better that mark with 27 digs against Queens (16-10), while Smith registered 29 assists and Shank 28. Imbimbo recorded 14 kills and nine digs in the second win, while Megan Mooney added 10 kills and four blocks and Alex Matz nine kills on only 18 swings.
