AIKEN, S.C. – Freshman David Sheridan and junior Alex Blandin each scored second-half goals and Francis Marion University earned a road point with a 2-2 tie with USC Aiken, Wednesday evening (Oct. 17) in Peach Belt Conference men's soccer action.

Francis Marion is now 3-8-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the PBC. The Patriots return home to host Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday at 7 p.m. on Hartzler Field.

Senior defender Chevy Augustine tallied both of the Pacer goals on second-half headers. The Pacers (4-4-4, 1-4-1) have now gone to overtime in seven of their 12 matches this season.

After a scoreless opening stanza, Francis Marion netted the first goal in the 59th-minute when Sheridan headed in a Ryan Begg corner kick. The Patriots would hold on to the 1-0 lead until the 72nd-minute when Augustine headed in a corner kick from Jason King.

FMU retook the lead in the 80th-minute when Blandin hit the ball into the lower right corner of the net off an assist from Henrique Guitti. It was the 15th career score for the Shreveport, La., native.

USCA again knotted the contest when Augustine headed in a Chinedu Arinze corner kick with 2:02 left in regulation.

Neither team would be able to find the back of the net in the two overtime periods. Francis Marion did manage seven shots in the final 10-minute overtime period, including an attempt by junior forward Cody Farrier that was saved by USCA goalkeeper Brandon Jarosz with one second remaining.

USC Aiken owned a 26-23 shot advantage and the Pacers took 11 of the 13 corner kicks in the match. FMU sophomore keeper Logan Fisher registered six saves, while Pacer starter Joshua Poissant made four stops and Jarosz one save.
