Box Score FLORENCE, SC – Senior first baseman Preston Shuey added
to his career record RBI total with a two-run double as 16th-ranked
Francis Marion University scored five times in the bottom of the
first inning en route to 12-1 defeat of Barton College, Wednesday
afternoon (March 23) in non-conference baseball action.
The Patriots improve to 21-8 with their fifth consecutive win,
while Barton drops to 12-17. FMU will play host to Augusta
State University for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series this
weekend beginning with a single game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Junior right-hander Jarrott Hooks, the
second of six Patriot hurlers, earned the win to improve to
3-0. He tossed 4.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts,
while allowing only three singles.
Senior shortstop Tyler Cappelmann
was 3-for-5 to lead Francis Marion, while freshman third baseman Michael Wilson
was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in. Nine
different Patriots recorded RBIs, while FMU totaled 13 base
hits.
Left fielder David Gibbons and designated hitter Jordan Smith
were both 2-for-4 to pace Barton. Chris Rawlings drove in the
lone Bulldog run with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly that followed
a Gibbons lead-off triple. Jimmie Davis (0-4) was the losing
pitcher.
