Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Francis Marion University banged out 31 hits and received two quality pitching starts from sophomore Don Sandifer and senior Phillip Mozingo as the 24th-ranked Patriots swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader from Flagler College, winning by scores of 11-1 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon (March 19).
FMU improves to 19-8 overall and 5-3 in the PBC, while the Saints drop to 11-14 and 2-6. The two teams will play the final game of their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In the opener, Sandifer (6-1) won his sixth straight decision as he tossed a six-hitter. He struck out nine and walked no one while actually seeing his season earned run average swell to 0.79.
Junior center fielder Buddy Sosnoskie and freshman third baseman Michael Wilson were each 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. The Patriots totaled 17 base hits in the opener.
In the second contest, Mozingo (4-1) and junior righty Jarrott Hooks silenced the Saints' bats on just four hits. Mozingo struck out six in seven innings, while Hooks pitched two hitless and scoreless frames with a pair of punchouts.
Junior designated hitter John Jones was 2-for-3 in game two, including a three-run homer. His long ball was followed by a solo shot from Preston Shuey. Sosnoskie was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Both senior shortstop Tyler Cappelmann and freshman outfielder Dalton Gress had two hits in both contests.
