AUGUSTA, GA – Guard Tye Beal scored five of his 15 points during a key 7-0 run late in the second half and fifth-ranked and top-seeded Augusta State University grabbed a 71-61 win over fourth-seeded Francis Marion University, Tuesday evening (March 1) in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball tournament quarterfinal game.

The Jaguars gradually built a 10-point cushion in the first half, 32-22 with 3:58 left before halftime.  Francis Marion responded with an 11-1 run to close the half, tying the score at 33-33 on a late lay-in by Liki Turner.  Boyd helped spark the rally with five points.

Two free throws by Liki Turner moments into the second stanza gave FMU its only lead of the night at 35-33.  ASU regained the lead and led 52-45 with 8:05 remaining.

Again FMU rallied, this time closing to within 52-49 on two free throws by Evrik Gary and then two more by Coleman with 7:07 on the clock.  Beal then sparked the Jaguars' 7-0 spurt that pushed the margin to double figures at 59-49.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Armstrong and Beal eventually stretched the ASU advantage to 67-51.

Francis Marion shot 39.7 percent for the game and connected on only 4-of-21 three-point attempts.
