Box Score COLUMBIA, SC – Francis Marion University erupted for seven
hits and nine runs in the top of the first inning and went on to
claim a 15-5 non-conference win over Benedict College, Friday
afternoon (Feb. 18) at Capitol City Stadium.
FMU improves to 5-3 with its third straight victory. The
Patriots return home to host Winston-Salem State University on
Saturday at 2 p.m. FMU and Benedict (2-1) will renew
acquaintances again on Sunday at 1 p.m. this time on Cormell
Field.
Senior right-hander
Joe Wagstaff (2-1)
pitched six innings to earn the win. He allowed three runs on
four hits, while striking out five.
FMU junior designated hitter John Jones was 3-for-4
with a triple and four runs batted in, while senior first baseman
Preston
Shuey was 3-for-5 with one RBI. Junior second baseman Brock
McCallister had a pair of hits, both in the first inning, while
junior outfielder Tyler Boyd was 2-for-4
with two RBIs and freshman outfielder Dalton Gress was
2-for-2, including his first collegiate hit, and drove in one
run.
