Tuttle throws Pfeiffer by Francis Marion 3-1

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University sophomore righty Bryan Tuttle pitched a complete-game five hitter leading the Falcons to a 3-1 victory over Francis Marion University, Sunday afternoon (Feb. 13) in non-conference baseball action.

The win gives Pfeiffer (4-3) a weekend split with the Patriots (2-3).  FMU will continue its five-game road swing with a 2 p.m. contest at St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Tuesday.

The Pfeiffer offense supported Tuttle in the second inning with a two-out rally that posted a pair of runs. Tyler Smith and Kevin Price started the rally on back-to-back hit by pitches by Patriot starter Joe Wagstaff (1-1).

After a wild pitch moved both runners up 90 feet, Smith would score the game's first run on a passed ball by FMU catcher Zac Livingston. Hunter Boehme quickly followed with a RBI-single to center to put the Falcons up 2-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Pfeiffer scored an unearned run as Smith reached on a fielding error and later scored on a Jacob Yates' two-out single to center.

Francis Marion would score its lone run in the fifth as Brock McAllister reached on a fielder's choice by hustling to first and beating out a potential double play relay. After a double to left by Tyler Cappelmann, McAllister would score on a wild pitch from Tuttle.

The Patriots threatened in the ninth with a leadoff single from Buddy Sosnoskie, but he would soon be erased on a crucial 5-4-3 double play induced by Tuttle off the bat of Preston Shuey. That play proved critical as Chris Honeycutt followed with a double. Falcon shortstop Preston Lyon then made a diving catch on Sam Pepper's line drive to end the game.

No Patriot had more than one hit.

Wagstaff retired only five Falcons before leaving in the second.  Four Patriot relievers allowed just the one unearned run over the final six frames.

Tuttle struck out seven and issued just two walks.
