GREENWOOD, SC – Junior Ashlee Crook and freshman setter
Nicole Bennett both registered double-doubles to lead Francis
Marion University to a five-set win (28-26, 21-25, 25-13, 19-25,
15-11) over Lander University, Saturday afternoon (Sept. 25) in
Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.
FMU, in the midst of a seven-match road swing, improves to 10-5
overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt, while Lander slips to 6-7 and
1-5.
Freshman Riley Forester led Francis Marion with 14 kills, while
Crook tallied 13 kills and 19 digs. Bennett handed out
a career-high 53 assists and dug up 10 balls. Senior Mallory Eggert
and junior Danielle Parker added 12 and 11 kills respectively,
while senior libero Kelsie Deaton recorded a season-high 25 digs,
her third consecutive match of at least 20 digs and the 22nd of her
career. Eggert also served three aces and had four block
assists.
Lander's Candace LaRocca, Magi Nottingham and Melissa McCracken
also posted double-doubles with LaRocca recording 61 assists and 12
digs, Nottingham 12 kills and 25 digs, and McCracken 16 kills and
16 digs. Lindsey Everhart and Hannah Dederick had 17 and 15 kills
respectively for the Bearcats, while Madison Kubal chipped in 18
digs.
