MOUNT OLIVE, NC – Francis Marion University split its two
matches on the final day of the Mount Olive College Invitational
Volleyball Tournament, Saturday (Sept. 11).
The Patriots (6-2) beat the host Trojans 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 on
Saturday morning, but then fell to Newberry College (6-3) in four
games: 26-28, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.
FMU will play host to Limestone College on Tuesday evening at 7
p.m. The team's 6-2 start is the best since 2006.
Freshman Paige Perreault led FMU with six kills in the win,
while Amanda Mitchell and Megan Mooney each had five kills.
Freshman setter Nicole Bennett recorded 23 assists and served four
aces, while junior Hallie Legg dug up nine balls.
Mitchell and freshman Riley Forester each had 11 kills in the
loss to Newberry. Mitchell hit .333 for the match, while
Forester compiled 23 digs. Perreault added 10 kills and
Bennett handed out 47 assists. Senior libero Kelsie Deaton
registered 24 digs for her 19th career match of at least 20
digs. Legg recorded 18 digs and two service aces, while
senior Mallory Eggert tallied eight kills and five blocks, while
hitting .300.
Both Deaton and Mitchell were named to the All-Tournament
Team.
