FLORENCE, SC – Junior infielder Tyler Cappelmann was 4-for-5 and sophomore outfielder Tyler Boyd registered two hits, including a home run, as 11th-ranked Francis Marion University beat Barton College 10-2, Wednesday afternoon (March 24) in non-conference baseball action.

FMU (22-6) will now head to Augusta, Ga., this weekend for a three-game series with Augusta State University, beginning with a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m.  The Bulldogs, who drop to 15-16, will play at UNC Pembroke on Thursday at 5 p.m.

In addition to his four hits, Cappelman scored twice and drove in the go-ahead run with an infield single in the fifth inning.  He recorded his third four-hit game of the month and over the past six contests he is batting 19-for-27 (.704).

Boyd also scored twice and drove in a run with a solo homer down the left field line in the sixth inning.  Senior second baseman Josh Biggers was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Senior shortstop Barrett Kleinknecht drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and an eighth-inning single that extended his hitting streak to 13 games.  He also pitched one scoreless inning on the mound.

FMU senior right-hander Zane Petty (1-1) collected the win as he was the second of five Patriot hurlers. Francis Marion pitchers allowed only three hits to the Bulldogs over the final six innings.

Barton took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when senior catcher Kevin Carty drove a two-run single through the left side of the infield, the ball scooting just under Cappelmann's glove.

The Patriots went ahead with three runs in the fifth inning on RBI hits by Biggers, Alex Lee, and Cappelmann. The frame ignited the Patriot offense that scored 10 runs in its final four at bats.

Sophomore left fielder Sam Pepper led Barton with a 2-for-4 day that included a run scored.  Bulldog senior righty James Holmes (2-1) allowed three runs in five innings and was tagged with the loss.
