Drewry's triple-double paces Patriots past UNCP

FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore Liz Drewry registered a triple double, the first for a Patriot in three seasons, to lead Francis Marion University to a 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 14-25, 15-10) victory over the UNC Pembroke, Wednesday night (Nov. 3) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.

FMU improves to 15-13 overall and 4-8 in the Peach Belt, while the Braves drop to 19-11 and 5-7.  The two local conference rivals split their season series with each squad winning on its home court.

Francis Marion will play host to Armstrong Atlantic State University on Friday evening at 7 p.m. as the Patriots celebrate Senior Night.

Drewry registered 30 assists, 15 digs, and 10 kills, while adding three block assists.  It was the first triple-double for a Patriot since Jessica Lombardi recorded 15 kills, 11 service aces, and 10 digs against Converse College on Oct. 6, 2007.

Freshman hitter Riley Forester led FMU with a career-high 18 kills and a .371 attack percentage.  Senior Mallory Eggert added 12 kills, four aces, and five blocks, while junior Ashlee Crook had 11 kills and 12 digs.  Junior Hallie Legg chipped in 27 assists and 13 digs, while senior libero Kelsie Deaton dug up a game-high 28 balls.

Junior Rebecca Morgan led UNCP with 20 kills, while junior setter Heather Bolwerk handed out 44 assists.  Freshman libero Marissa Baker recorded 27 digs and junior Tiara Anderson added 15 kills.

After UNCP hit a sizzling .583 as a team to take set four handily, FMU rebounded by jumping out to the early lead in set five.  The Patriots held the Braves to only a .075 percentage in the deciding game.
