Box Score FLORENCE, SC – Senior forward Dominique Coleman came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points and lead Francis Marion University to the fifth-highest point total in team history as the Patriots swatted Morris College 116-60, Tuesday night (Nov. 23) in men's college basketball action.
Francis Marion improves to 4-0 and posts its highest game score in 82 contests dating back to a 117-62 victory over Florida Christian College on Dec. 15, 2007. Coupled with the FMU women's 101-63 victory over Morris in the evening's opening contest, it marks the fifth time in school history that both squads have eclipsed the century mark on the same night, but the first time since February 1988.
The 56-point margin of victory was a team record, breaking the old mark of 55 set in the 2007 contest against FCC.
Coleman was 6-of-9 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, in only 20 minutes of action. Seven of the 10 Patriots reached double-digits for points and everyone scored.
Junior 6-5 forward Liki Turner, this week's Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, registered his second straight double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He also handed out five assists. Senior forward Simel Boyd and junior point guard Shawn Greenfield each scored 14, while senior point guard Bryant Julious added 12 points and five assists. Greenfield was also 4-of-5 from three-point distance as the Patriot hit 10-of-19 three-point attempts for the game.
FMU post players David Turner and Andrew Smith each tallied 10 points.
After leading 48-23 at intermission, the Patriots tied a school record for points in a half with a 68-point outburst in the second stanza. FMU shot 60.5 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes, including 6-of-11 from long range, and also hit on 16-of-18 free throws.
Junior forward Jared Jackson led Morris (1-3) with 17 points, while forward Derrick Williams and guard Quantrez Franklin each scored 10 points.
Francis Marion led 17-16 with 11:56 left in the first half, but Liki and David Turner combined for 12 points in a 19-0 run that broke the game open.
Francis Marion outrebounded the smaller Hornets 53-31 and held a 50-34 advantage in points-in-the-paint.
