Patriots split two matches at Pacer Invite

AIKEN,SC -- Led by junior Amanda Mitchell and senior libero Kelsie Deaton, the Francis Marion University volleyball team split two matches on Friday at the Pacer Invitational Tournament.

Francis Marion beat Davis & Elkins College 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 and then dropped a tough five-set decision to Palm Beach Atlantic University 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 29-27, 15-10.

FMU (14-11) will conclude its tournament action on Saturday against King College at 10 a.m.

In the win, Mitchell tallied nine kills and 16 digs, while Deaton dug up 26 balls. Freshman setter Nicole Bennett handed out 26 assists and served three aces. Sophomore Liz Drewry added six kills and three aces, while senior Mallory Eggert had six kills and four blocks.

In the match against PBAU, Drewry tallied 13 kills and Mitchell 11 kills. Deaton recorded a career-high 44 digs, while Bennett registered 49 assists and seven service aces. Ashlee Crook added 10 kills and 17 digs and Eggert 10 kills and five blocks.
