Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Junior righty Dylan Lightell pitched
eight innings while fanning 11, combined with Chandler
Snell's four hits and four RBIs to power an 11-5 win for No. 8
Georgia College & State University baseball (24-9, 11-5 PBC)
over No. 23 Francis Marion University (21-12-1, 9-8 PBC) at John
Kurtz Field.
Lightell (2-2) evened out his record, allowing just two earned runs
on nine hits. His 11 strikeouts were the most by a Bobcat pitcher
since New York Mets prospect Michael Antonini (2006-07) fanned 14
North Greenville University batters Feb. 16, 2007.
Before Snell's groundout in his final at-bat, the junior shortstop
had recorded hits in eight straight at-bats. He finished tonight's
contest 4-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs, ripping three
doubles.
The Bobcats plated five runs in the first and never looked back,
scoring runs in all but two of the eight innings they batted. Third
baseman Steve Muoio blasted his team-leading fourth home run
of the season as part of a 2-for-3 day with two runs and two RBI.
First baseman Matt Pitts scored twice while going 3-for-5, and
centerfielder Sean Harrell didn't start, but still worked his
way to a 2-for-3 driving in a pair.
FMU senior righty starter David Walters (5-3) took the loss in four
innings, giving up nine hits and seven runs, five of which were
earned. Senior catcher Jared Barkdoll smacked a solo home run as
part of a 2-for-3. Centerfielder Martin Gordon was 4-for-5, but the
Patriots couldn't capitalize, as they stranded 11 runners.
The Bobcats are now 36-23 all-time against Francis Marion, and 7-3
against ranked opponents this season.
The two teams finish up the three-game set with a
doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
