Queens takes wet 2-0 decision over Patriot Men

Junior Logan Berrier and senior Kevin O'Donnell scored second-half goals to lift Queens University of Charlotte to a soggy 2-0 win over Francis Marion University, Friday afternoon (Sept. 5) in non-conference men's college soccer action.

The match, FMU's home opener, was played almost entirely in a downpour thanks to advancing Tropical Storm Hannah.

Francis Marion drops to 0-2-1, while Queens evens its record at 1-1-0.  FMU will play host to Pfeiffer University on Sunday at 2 p.m., while Queens plays at UNC Pembroke on Sunday at 7 p.m.

After a scoreless first half that saw Queens create several good scoring opportunities, the Royals got on the scoreboard in the 47th minute.  Berrier took a pass from David Palma and his shot deflected off a Patriot defender and over FMU goalkeeper Clark Richeson.

O'Donnell doubled the margin to 2-0 when he scored on a 12-yard shot from the left side at 57:54.  His goal was set up by two quick passes from Matthew Gwilt and Heath Cox.

Queens outshot Francis Marion 15-10, although the Patriots led 9-8 in corner kicks.  Three of the FMU corners came in a 27-second span late in the match, but the Patriots were unable to get a shot-on-goal during that sequence.

Richeson finished with three saves , while Queens senior goalkeeper Jake O'Donnell posted six saves en route to the shutout victory.
