FLORENCE, SC - Freshman Adrian Sikorski scored one goal and
assisted on another to help lead Francis Marion University to a 3-0
win over Coker College, Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 24) in
non-conference men's soccer action.
The Patriots improve to 2-4-2 with their 13th consecutive win
over the Cobras (1-6-1).
FMU freshman Emerson Peredo opened the scoring in the 37th
minute with his second goal of 2008. He received a cross from
Sikorski and in a mad scramble for the ball in the 6-yard box, his
shot deflected in.
Francis Marion led 1-0 at halftime despite outshooting the
Cobras 10-3 over the opening 45 minutes.
Sikorski upped the margin to 2-0 at 53:05 when he took a pass
from Peredo and scored from eight yards out on the right
side. Sophomore forward Juan Rivas scored the third and final
FMU goal at 67:59. Alden Brooks flicked on a pass to Ivan
Juric streaking down the left side and Juric crossed the ball to
Rivas, who was 10 yards out directly in front of the Coker goal.
FMU sophomore goalkeeper Clark Richeson (70:12) and junior Nick
Krywyj (19:48) combined on the shutout, with Richeson having to
make two saves.
Coker sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Lewis registered three saves as
FMU outshot the Cobras 15-6. Francis Marion also led in
corner kicks 10-2.
Francis Marion returns to Peach Belt Conference action on
Saturday when the Patriots entertain Georgia Southwestern State
University at 4 p.m. Coker will host North Greenville College
on Monday at 7 p.m.
