FLORENCE, SC - Freshman Ashlyn Underhill recorded a combined 20 kills as Francis Marion University won two drastically different matches on the final day of the Swamp Fox Invitational, Saturday (Sept. 20) at the Smith University Center.

Francis Marion rallied from two games down to beat Carson-Newman College 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-5 and then cruised by Fayetteville State University 25-8, 25-17, 25-18.

The Patriots up their record to 11-4, only two wins shy of last year's win total.  FMU will open Peach Belt Conference play this Friday at 7 p.m. when the Patriots play host to Augusta State University. 

In other action on Saturday, Franklin Pierce University beat Carson-Newman 25-21, 25-22, 25-15; Montreat College downed Fayetteville State 25-17, 22-25, 25-14, 25-15; Franklin Pierce defeated Augusta State 25-22, 25-23, 25-21; and Augusta State beat Montreat 25-23, 25-21, 25-18.

In the come-back win over Carson-Newman, freshman Amanda Mitchell led FMU with 11 kills, while Jessica Lombardi added nine and Underhill eight.  Mitchell also tallied six blocks.  Senior setter Jenna Kaiser compiled 38 assists and 16 digs, while libero Kelsie Deaton dug up a game-high 21 balls, her second 20-plus effort of the weekend.

Sophomore Carly Mozgai led Carson-Newman with 20 kills, while Jessica Schachleiter added 13 kills and 12 digs.  Setters Allyson Corhn and Stephanie Cutter handed out 27 and 25 assists respectively, while libero Haley Bush had a team-high 18 digs.

In the sweep of FSU, Underhill led the way with 12 kills, while freshman Ashlee Crook had nine.  Junior Jess O'Leary recorded 20 assists in two games, while also leading the team with nine digs.

Sophomore Samantha Meeks paced the Broncos with six kills, while setter Achari Mainor dished out 19 assists.  Junior Cailee Huffman recorded 12 digs.
