HICKORY, NC - Junior midfielder Kyle Clinton knocked in a loose
ball with 29:18 remaining and Francis Marion University went on to
register a 2-2 tie with Lenoir-Rhyne College, Sunday afternoon
(Aug. 31) in men's college soccer action.
Francis Marion (0-1-1) was the first to get on the board with a
goal by sophomore Ivan Juric eight and a half minutes into the
match. Juric scored off of a deflection in front of the net.
L-R answered just over two minutes later (34:15) when Daniel
Jones converted a short pass inside the box from Ejiro Ogodu that
was sent ahead by Jeffrey Marks. The Bears struck again
just before halftime, with 4:24 left to go, when Martin Thomasson
took a pass from Carlos Martin and scored to put Lenoir Rhyne up
2-1.
Just after the hour mark (60:42), the Patriots knotted the match
at 2-2 when Clinton scored on the loose ball.
FMU sophomore goalkeeper Clark Richeson made six saves, while
the Bears' Luke Gibbons stopped seven attempts. Lenoir Rhyne
outshot the Patriots 19-18, while FMU held a 5-4 advantage in
corner kicks.
Francis Marion will play its home opener on Friday against
Queens University of Charlotte at 4 p.m.
